Tensions Rise in Oyo as Angry Parents Protest Over Abducted Schoolchildren

At least 39 students, ages two to sixteen, and seven teachers were kidnapped by gunmen during an assault on three schools in the Oriire district of Oyo State on May 15.

One assistant headmaster was also killed.

Nearly three weeks later, a mother who was upset at the lack of rescues directed her insults at President Bola Tinubu and his son Seyi’s festival attendance.

As police operations continue without any results, protests have spread throughout Ibadan and the surrounding areas, with parents threatening to escalate the situation if the detainees aren’t released quickly.
