‘That’s the way life goes’: Trump defends going to MSG when most Americans can’t afford $8k tickets

President Donald Trump has defended his anticipated trip to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals even as most Americans can’t afford the $8,000 tickets.

A reporter asked about Trump’s luxurious trip to Manhattan watch the New York Knicks face off against the San Antonio Spurs Monday night.

“The cheapest price for the Game 3 you’re going to is $8,000. Everyday Americans can’t afford these sporting events,” the reporter told Trump on Air Force One on Friday.

Trump suggested Americans plop on their couch or grab a bar stool to watch the game instead of paying for courtside seats.

“They can watch it on television,” the president said. “It’s sort of semi-free to watch it on television.”

“That’s the way life goes,” Trump resigned. “If the team wasn’t a big success, you could go very easily.”

Trump announced Thursday that he was invited to MSG by Knicks owner Jim Dolan and that he would attend Monday’s game and possibly Game 4 next Wednesday.

“I’ve been a Knicks fan for a long time, and I’m also a Jim Dolan fan. He’s a nice guy,” Trump said from the Oval Office.

“He’s been a long time wanting to win, and he’s a competitive guy, and he’s got a team that’s amazing.”

The Knicks won Game 1 Wednesday night, 105 to 95, after coming back from a 14-point deficit in the third quarter.

Several celebrities and Knicks superfans were in San Antonio for the game, including filmmaker Spike Lee, comedian Tracy Morgan and actors Timothee Chalamet and Ben Stiller.
