Tinubu to address Nigerians on Democracy Day

President Bola Tinubu is set to deliver a national address to Nigerians to mark Democracy Day on Friday.

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the speech is scheduled to air on the Nigerian Television Authority network at 7am.

All television stations advised to hook onto the NTA network to carry the broadcast.

“The speech is scheduled to air on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) network at 7:00 a.m.

“All television stations are requested to hook onto the NTA network to carry the broadcast,” the statement signed late Thursday read.

Friday, June 12, marks the 33rd anniversary of the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.

The annulment of the election by the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida triggered a prolonged pro-democracy struggle that shaped modern Nigeria’s political trajectory.

The day was formally recognised as Democracy Day by President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2018 and elevated to a public holiday, replacing May 29, the date of the return to civilian rule in 1999, as the national civic commemoration.
