Two arrested after speeding vehicle in convoy kills woman in Rivers + Video

A young woman identified as Eno was killed on Tuesday after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle- reportedly a Mercedes Benz- moving in a convoy near the Rivers State University campus in Port Harcourt.

It was gathered that the victim sustained fatal injuries after hitting her head on the ground following the impact of the accident.

Sources said some occupants of the convoy vehicles reportedly fled the scene after realising that the woman had died.

An eyewitness near the university said, “The security personnel attached to the university and the police were immediately alerted, and they quickly cordoned off all exit points from the campus.

“Then operatives of the Nkpolu Police Division, in collaboration with the university security team, later apprehended two suspects identified as Onunaka and Daniel, drivers of a Toyota Camry Spider and a Mercedes-Benz E300, respectively.”

The source, who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the two suspects might be students of Rivers State University.

Available information disclosed that the suspects were being detained at the Nkpolu Police Division in the Mile 3 area of Diobu, Port Harcourt, while the deceased’s body had been recovered and deposited in a mortuary.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for Rivers State University, Victor Banigo, for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not answer several calls made to his mobile phone.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspects, adding that an investigation was ongoing.

“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, while the woman’s corpse has been retrieved and deposited in the mortuary. “So, yes, I can confirm the incident, and the investigation is ongoing,” Agabe stated.
