Uzodimma urges APC aspirants to unite after primaries

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has called on aspirants who participated in the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state to accept the outcome of the exercise and work together for the party’s success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uzodimma made the appeal on Monday during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting of the APC held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre in Owerri.

The governor urged party members to embrace reconciliation and align with the decisions reached through the primary elections, stressing the need for unity within the party.

He called on aggrieved aspirants to put the contest behind them and focus on securing victory for the APC in future elections.

Uzodimma also reiterated the need for the South-East to strengthen its relevance in national politics by mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next general election.

He commended the President for supporting development projects in Imo State and said federal backing had contributed to the administration’s achievements in infrastructure and social renewal.

He said: “We must work harder to ensure that President Bola Tinubu gets a huge number of votes from this state in the coming election as a show of gratitude for his support and goodwill towards Imo and the South East.”

The state APC Chairman, Chief Austin Onyedebelu, also praised the governor’s leadership and described the primary elections as peaceful and transparent.

Onyedebelu urged unsuccessful aspirants to accept the outcome of the exercise and continue supporting the party.

He said: “In every political contest, there can only be one winner.”

The APC chairman also assured members that the party would remain inclusive in its affairs despite the outcome of the primaries.

Some aspirants who participated in the contests commended the party leadership for conducting what they described as fair and credible exercises.

The aspirants, including those who sought senatorial and House of Representatives tickets, pledged their continued loyalty to the APC despite the differing outcomes of the primaries.

Successful candidates and party leaders also used the meeting to call for greater unity within the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
