Congo football superfan Lumumba Vea has shared that he exercises very well before going to the field, where he stands for 90 minutes to 120 minutes and at some point, people thought he was a statue.

During football matches between DR Congo and other countries, other fans are usually dancing, singing and celebrating. Michel Kuka Mboladinga aka “Lumumba Vea,” spends entire matches motionless with one hand raised, a tribute to one of Congo’s most important historical figures Dr Patrice Lumumba.

Lumumba not only celebrates his football team, but he also uses such opportunities on the global stage to send a message on the killings going on in his country while the rest of the world just looks on.

During DR Congo’s match against Colombia, covered his mouth and mimicked a gun pointed at his head in a powerful symbolic protest against the perceived silence surrounding the conflict in eastern DR Congo. One of the globe’s most severe, yet least-covered, humanitarian crises has displaced millions and claimed countless lives through violence and massacres.
