The office of Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, has strongly refuted online publications linking the former governor to the recent seizure of gold bars by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
In a statement issued on his behalf, the senator described the reports as “malicious, reckless, and politically motivated,” insisting that he has no connection whatsoever to the incident currently under investigation by the EFCC.
The statement emphasized that at no point did the EFCC implicate or name Senator Yari as a suspect or person of interest in the matter, adding that attempts to associate him with the case were deliberate efforts to tarnish his reputation.
According to the statement, the publications were part of a coordinated campaign aimed at damaging the image of the lawmaker, who it described as a prominent political figure and supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are fully aware of the individuals and interests behind this latest round of propaganda,” the statement said, alleging that political opponents were resorting to misinformation after failing to undermine the senator through legitimate political means.
It further argued that the attacks were driven by Yari’s growing political influence and national relevance, as well as his cordial relationship within the current political structure.
The senator, however, maintained that he would not be distracted by what he termed “political brigandage,” reiterating his focus on legislative duties and representation of the people of Zamfara West.
He also directed his legal team to initiate legal action against individuals, groups, and media platforms responsible for what he described as defamatory allegations, demanding that they be prepared to substantiate their claims in court.
The statement urged members of the public to disregard the reports entirely, describing them as baseless and politically orchestrated.
It concluded that no amount of “falsehood or sponsored propaganda” would diminish Senator Yari’s record of service or his contributions to national development.
