The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has reiterated its belief that the restoration of Biafra as an independent sovereign state remains the only viable and lasting solution to the challenges facing the region.
The group stated that an independent Biafra would serve as a secure homeland and safe haven for persecuted Judeo-Christians and other vulnerable minorities across Nigeria who, it claimed, are currently facing threats to their existence.
In a statement issued on Saturday by IPOB spokesperson and Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the organisation said the restoration of Biafra would bring genuine peace, security, and stability to the region through respect for universally recognised principles of human rights, self-determination, and international law.
Powerful also said the IPOB leadership, coordinated by the Fourth Administration of the Directorate of State headed by Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, had extended its appreciation to the Knesset of the State of Israel, particularly Deputy Speaker Nissim Vaturi and Deputy Chairman of the Knesset and member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, Mrs. Limor Son Har-Melech, for what it described as a warm and productive reception accorded to its delegation in Jerusalem.
According to him, the engagement marked a significant milestone in IPOB’s peaceful international diplomatic outreach.
He said, “We are sincerely grateful for the solidarity expressed, particularly the recognition that this is a global struggle between good and evil, and that good shall ultimately triumph when principled nations stand together.”
Powerful added that the discussions in Jerusalem echoed the longstanding conviction of Kanu that Biafra’s aspirations would be advanced through strategic partnerships with Israel and the United States, rooted in shared values of justice, liberty, and human dignity.
The spokesperson further stated that the Jewish and Biafran peoples share historical experiences of persecution, discrimination, displacement, and existential threats, adding that the rebirth of Israel in 1948 remains an inspiration to many Biafrans.
“Today, as Judeo-Christian communities and other minorities face systematic slaughter and genocide across Nigeria, Biafrans are more determined than ever to secure their own future,” he said.
Powerful said that while IPOB welcomed what it described as a breakthrough in Jerusalem, the group would continue parallel advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., and other world capitals through lawful diplomacy and peaceful engagement.
He maintained that no amount of political pressure or financial influence could permanently suppress what he described as a people’s legitimate quest for freedom when pursued with dignity and in accordance with international norms.
The organisation also reaffirmed its commitment to a non-violent struggle, the rule of law, and constructive international engagement as championed by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, while expressing appreciation to the Government and people of Israel, the Knesset, Nissim Vaturi, Limor Son Har-Melech, and other supporters of what it called justice and human rights.
