The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening security in the South East after assessing troops’ operational readiness in Ebonyi State.
Shaibu gave the assurance during an operational visit to formations at the Nkwagu Military Cantonment, Abakaliki on Thursday.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, made this known in a statement on Thursday.
Anele said the visit formed part of efforts to evaluate troops’ combat readiness, operational effectiveness, and welfare in line with the army’s transformation agenda.
Addressing officers and soldiers, the COAS commended their dedication, discipline, and commitment to duty despite prevailing security challenges.
He urged them to remain vigilant, uphold the constitution and maintain professionalism while respecting human rights in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Shaibu charged the troops to sustain pressure on criminal elements threatening peace and stability across the South East.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration with sister services, other security agencies, and host communities in addressing emerging security threats.
The COAS also inspected operational and welfare facilities, including the Military Hospital and troops’ accommodation.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving personnel welfare, healthcare services, and infrastructure to boost operational efficiency and mission success.
Earlier, Shaibu received briefings on ongoing operations, operational achievements, and administrative requirements within the formation.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded and encouraged commanders and troops to sustain the momentum in consolidating peace and enhancing security across Ebonyi State and the wider South East.
