Commissioner provides solar street light for community

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, the Commissioner of information and Culture in Kebbi State, has provided solar powered street lights and anti-mosquito chemical spray to his Rafin Atiku Ta Gabas neighbourhood in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

Speaking at the event, the Village Head of Rafin Atiku Ta Gabas, Alhaji Hamza Ahmed BK, explained that the gesture by the Commissioner followed the observation that the area needed the provision of both street lights and anti mosquito chemical spray due to security concerns and the need for a mosquito free environment. 

He added that the commissioner decided to come to the aid of his own community in view of the importance he attaches to communal harmony and security of the neighbourhood.

The Village Head called on the people of the area to guide against vandalisation of the poles and the lighting systems.

He also called on them to also ensure strict hygiene of the neighbourhood as it is the only way towards cleanliness for a mosquito free environment.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Rafin Atiku Ta Gabas Community Development Association, Malam Abubakar Umar Mai’akwai, who is also a senior lecturer at the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, emphasised the need for community cohesion and unity to improve security, a sense of communal solidarity and development.

Mai’akwai thanked the Commissioner for the gesture and assured him that efforts would continue to be made to mobilise the people to give emphasis on security and cooperation with relevant government agencies to ensure improvement in the quality of lives of all.

In his address on occasion, the Commissioner thanked Alhaji Sama’ila Mabo, who is a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area for the positive roles he has always played in providing support and encouragement in all endeavours that have to do with helping communities. 

He noted the APC chieftain had been instrumental in reaching out to advise and support efforts at making life easier for the people.
