At 64, Nigerian Father of Five Graduates as Registered Nurse in UK

A 64-year-old Nigerian, John Adesoye, has graduated as a registered nurse in the United Kingdom, proving that age is not a barrier to achieving lifelong dreams.

Adesoye, a father of five, grew up in Nigeria and previously worked as an electronics technician in Greece before relocating to the UK in 2013. He began his healthcare journey as a healthcare assistant at Southmead Hospital in Bristol in 2014 before enrolling in a registered nurse degree apprenticeship at the University of the West of England.

While studying, he balanced university classes with hospital shifts, gaining experience in cardiology, accident and emergency, and intensive care. He has now qualified as a registered nurse and secured a permanent nursing position at Southmead Hospital.

Reflecting on his achievement, Adesoye said his passion for helping people inspired his career change. He encouraged others never to give up on their ambitions, saying, “It’s never too late.” He also revealed plans to pursue a master’s degree if given the opportunity.
