“I Declared for President, By the Next Morning Children Were Abducted” – Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said the state experienced its first major school abduction shortly after he declared his intention to run for Nigeria’s presidency.

Speaking during a meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and leaders of the African Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State, Makinde recalled that Oyo had not recorded such an incident throughout his first seven years in office.

The governor was referring to the abduction of pupils and teachers from Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to Makinde, the timing of the incident came just hours after he publicly declared his presidential ambition.

“For seven years as Oyo State governor, we did not witness such an incident in my state. I declared to run for the presidency at 4 p.m., and by 9 a.m. the following morning, children were abducted in Oyo State.”

Makinde did not provide evidence linking the kidnapping to his presidential declaration. However, his comments have sparked discussions over the timing of the incident and the security situation in the state.

The abduction of the schoolchildren and teachers drew nationwide attention, with the victims spending several weeks in captivity before eventually regaining their freedom.

In other news… Apostle Johnson Suleman has sparked conversations online after sharing his views on how men and women should approach dinner dates.

The cleric advised that a dinner outing should be seen as an opportunity for two people to connect and understand each other better, rather than a chance to get a free meal.

Speaking on the subject, Suleman said:

“Going out on a dinner date is an opportunity to get familiar with each other, not a cure for starvation. What exactly are you doing with a takeaway on a dinner date? As a lady, eat well before going on a dinner date and go with your own money. As a man, take a woman to a restaurant you can comfortably afford, not an expensive place beyond your means.”

Apostle Suleman’s statement has generated reactions from social media users, with many debating the expectations placed on both men and women during dating.

While some agreed with his perspective that dates should focus more on connection than financial gain, others shared different views on the role of hospitality and spending in romantic relationships.

The discussion has once again highlighted ongoing conversations about modern dating culture, financial responsibility, and the importance of having realistic expectations when going out with someone.
