Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has expressed disappointment at some of his colleagues who are fond of mocking or shading others.
On his Instagram page, he expressed amazement at how actors jump into the comments to shade or mock other actors and creatives.
He said it’s bad enough that some people gossip and even fabricate stories when they don’t have facts, and some go so far as to send these stories to blogs, hoping to damage another person’s reputation.
“I’m always amazed when people who call themselves actors jump into comment sections to shade or mock other actors/creatives at large.
It’s bad enough that some of them gossip and even fabricate stories when they don’t have the facts, all in the attempt to tarnish someone’s image out of envy or spite. Some even go so far as to send these stories to blogs, hoping to damage another person’s reputation.
But having the confidence to join the trolling publicly? That’s the part I find most disturbing.
As creatives, we should understand the work, the sacrifices, the emotions, and the mental health this profession demands. If your contributions are constantly tearing down your colleagues, you’re not acting like a creative. You’re behaving like an audience member, a fan, a hater, or a troll”.

Over the years, many celebrities have spoken about the fake love in the industry.
Last year, Akinyanju Arike, popularly known as Eyinju Eledumare, blew hot on her Yoruba colleagues over the rate of hypocrisy amongst them. The calm actress took to Instagram to call out and shade an unnamed person she had celebrated, but who refused to acknowledge her post publicly.
In an interview, Damola Olatunji revealed that most attacks on celebrities are carried out by those within the industry to diminish others. He sent a message to upcoming actors and actresses, admonishing them to have a shock absorber, as the movie industry lacks real love.
Asaba actress Ruth Eze cried out over the level of fakeness and fake love in Nollywood. In an Instagram post, she called on God to have mercy and questioned why people would celebrate someone they have criticized and are still criticizing. She pondered how they do it as she can’t fake a smile.
Similarly, Yoruba actor Kevin Ikeduba had blown hot at Nollywood, slamming the industry for its fake love. The talented actor noted how the industry is filled with fake people, pretending to be who they aren’t. Not mentioning any names, he stressed that the industry is filled with the most fake set of human beings and that they don’t know how to show love to each other.
