Over 4,500 Dump APC, ADC For PDP As Adebutu Declares Ogun Ready For Change

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State for the 2027 election, Ladi Adebutu, on Tuesday intensified his campaign ahead of the poll as he received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress, the African Democratic Congress and other political groups, declaring that the PDP remained the only party capable of rescuing Ogun State and Nigeria from what he described as years of poor governance.

The defectors were received at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta during a ceremony attended by party leaders and supporters.

Addressing the gathering, Adebutu urged the new members to complete their registration with the party and mobilise more residents to join the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the PDP offered Nigerians the best opportunity to restore prosperity and accountable leadership.

“We are convinced that the PDP is the only political platform that can return Ogun State and Nigeria to the path of prosperity. Those joining us should register fully and encourage others to become part of this movement,” he said.

Adebutu also criticised the APC-led government, alleging widespread corruption and poor governance, while urging Nigerians to use their votes to demand accountability.

According to him, the country is witnessing one of its most difficult periods under the current administration.

Also speaking, the PDP Deputy National Organising Secretary, Dr Sunday Solarin, said the growing number of defections reflected increasing public dissatisfaction with the APC government in Ogun State.

He said many of the new members were attracted to the PDP because they believed the party and its governorship candidate possessed the capacity to deliver responsible leadership.

Solarin maintained that residents, particularly in Ogun Central Senatorial District, were disappointed by what he described as the failure of the APC administration to deliver meaningful development over the past seven years.

“They want good governance, prosperity and a better quality of life. Those expectations have not been met, and that is why many are embracing the PDP,” he said.

He added that Adebutu had earned the confidence of many residents through years of engagement with communities and humanitarian interventions.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, the Chairman of the Egba Agenda Forum and Convener of the Ogun Rescue Movement, High Chief Mustapha AbdulAkeem Owolabi, claimed that more than 4,500 members from the APC, ADC, the Yayi Door-to-Door Movement and other political groups across Abeokuta and other Egba communities had joined the PDP.

Owolabi described the mass defection as a sign of growing public discontent with the APC administration, expressing confidence that the PDP would record significant electoral gains in Ogun Central during the 2027 governorship election.

He said many residents had become frustrated with the current state of governance and were seeking an alternative capable of improving their living conditions.

The APC had yet to react to the allegations and claims made by the PDP as of the time of filing this report.
