Jorge Jesus is set to become the new head coach of Portugal following the departure of Roberto Martinez after the country’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 71-year-old Portuguese tactician has accepted the offer to take charge of the national team and is expected to lead Portugal through the UEFA Nations League, Euro 2028 and the next FIFA World Cup.
Jesus replaces Martinez, who stepped down after Portugal’s Round of 16 exit to Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The former Al Nassr coach arrives after guiding the Saudi Arabian club to the Saudi Pro League title alongside Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the agreement in a post on X.
“Jorge Jesus to become new Portugal head coach, here we go! He’s accepted to take over after Roberto Martínez.
“Jorge Jesus will lead the project for Nations League, Euro 2028 and next World Cup.”
Jesus recently worked with Ronaldo at Al Nassr and is expected to begin a new era with a Portugal squad aiming to bounce back from its disappointing World Cup exit.
Known for his attacking philosophy and tactical approach, Jesus has previously managed Benfica, Sporting CP, Flamengo, Al Hilal and Al Nassr before taking on his first international coaching role.
