Tinubu May Visit U.S. for Meeting With Trump Soon – Nigerian Ambassador Kayode

Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may soon embark on an official visit to the United States, where he is expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Inside Sources programme, Ambassador Are expressed optimism that the visit could take place before the end of his tenure as Nigeria’s envoy to Washington. However, he clarified that no official date has been fixed for the trip.

According to the ambassador, discussions between Nigeria and the United States remain active, with both countries maintaining strong diplomatic engagement despite the absence of a formal meeting between President Tinubu and President Trump since the latter returned to office.

Are described the relationship between the two leaders as cordial and said a presidential visit would further strengthen bilateral ties between both nations. He noted that such a meeting could deepen cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment, security, economic development, and regional stability.

The envoy also reflected on the importance of sustained diplomatic representation, noting that Nigeria had previously spent nearly three years without a substantive ambassador in Washington, a situation that affected bilateral relations and the smooth operation of the country’s diplomatic mission.

While expressing confidence that the visit will eventually take place, Ambassador Are emphasized that the trip remains subject to the President’s official schedule and diplomatic arrangements.
