A young Nigerian lady has sparked widespread reactions on social media after revealing that she asked her mother to stop including “a good husband” in her prayers for her.
The lady, who shared her views in a viral video, argued that marriage should not be regarded as the ultimate breakthrough for every woman.
Instead, she said her current priority is financial success and personal progress.
Says husband is not her definition of breakthrough
Speaking in the video, the lady said she recently told her mother to stop praying for her to find a husband and focus on asking God for breakthrough instead.
“So me, I just told my mom today that if she’s praying for me, she should not be adding husband as one of the things I need from God,” she said.
“How can you be saying that you’re asking God for breakthrough and you’re telling God that God should give me a good husband? Husband is not breakthrough.”
She explained that while living in Lagos, her mother constantly asked whether she had found someone who would eventually pay her bride price.
“I’ve been in Lagos and she had been telling me, ‘Get a husband. Who is the person you’re with? Is the person not coming to pay your bride price?‘” she recalled.
The lady said she eventually travelled to her village, believing her mother might have better luck finding her a husband.
“I thought, okay, I did not find husband in Lagos. Now I’m in the village. Can you help me to find husband?” she said.
However, she jokingly revealed that after spending three days in the village, nothing had changed.
“I’m here now for about three days now. My mother has not been able to find any man for me. So what I cannot get for myself, you cannot get it for me.”
Says she is praying for money, not marriage
The lady stressed that what she truly wants at this stage of her life is financial breakthrough rather than marriage.
“Please, husband is not one of my breakthrough prayers. No be wetin I dey find, I dey find money,” she said.
She added that she would only consider marriage if she met a man who genuinely supported her without later using his financial help against her.
“The husband wey I wan marry now, if na husband wey go give me money, him no go still use am against me in future,” she said.
“If the husband is coming with everything I need, okay, no problem. But if the husband is not coming with everything I need now and make me I still dey hustle, I no dey do.”
She concluded by appealing to her mother and others to pray for her success instead of making marriage the focus of their prayers.
“Pray for breakthrough for me, not for husband.”
