Liverpool manager Arne Slot has tipped Paris Saint-Germain to go all the way and win the UEFA Champions League after the Reds were dumped out in the quarter-finals at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Ousmane Dembélé struck twice as PSG sealed a 2-0 win on the night and a dominant 4-0 aggregate victory, having already won the first leg in Paris. The defeat ends Liverpool’s European campaign in painful fashion on home soil.

Speaking after the match, Slot admitted his side were second best across the tie and praised PSG’s ruthless edge in front of goal.

“We got much more than we deserved last week by only losing 2-0. What was also the same as last season was getting much less than we deserved at home,” Slot told Prime Video.

“We should have won. It’s also the quality of PSG that they don’t concede from the chances we had, and the finishing of Ousmane Dembele probably tells you why he won the (2025) Ballon d’Or and why Paris (PSG) won the Champions League last season and have a good chance to win it again.”

The result confirms Liverpool will end the season without a trophy, with their Premier League challenge fading and elimination already confirmed in the FA Cup.

NOP NIGERIA reports that there was further concern for the club after striker Hugo Ekitike suffered a suspected Achilles injury during the match. The forward went down after 31 minutes and had to be withdrawn in visible discomfort.

He is due to undergo scans to determine the severity of the problem. Early fears suggest he could be sidelined for at least six months, with a worst-case scenario stretching close to nine months.

The setback comes just as Alexander Isak returned to action after his own injury lay-off, marking his first start since fracturing his ankle in December.

Attention now shifts to the Premier League, where Slot’s side still have several fixtures to complete their season: Everton (A), Crystal Palace (H), Manchester United (A), Chelsea (H), Aston Villa (A) and Brentford (H).
