A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Maitama has rescinded the bench warrant earlier issued against Kabiru Turaki over his failure to appear in court in a case involving an alleged false information charge.
The order was vacated following an oral application by defence counsel, Chris Uche, which was not opposed by the prosecution counsel, Usman Rabiu.
Ruling on the matter, Peter Kekemeke held that the purpose of the bench warrant had been fulfilled, as the defendant had voluntarily appeared before the court without being arrested.
“The essence of the bench warrant was to produce the defendant in court, and since the defendant has appeared voluntarily, without being arrested, and the application not being contested, the bench warrant is hereby rescinded,” the judge said.
The court subsequently adjourned the case to April 22, 2026 for further proceedings.
The development was confirmed in a statement signed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, Principal Private Secretary to Turaki.
