US President Donald Trump on Friday, April 17, said that the naval blockade targeting Iran will remain in place until an agreement with Tehran is completely finalised.

In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump asserted that while the Strait of Hormuz remains open for global shipping, restrictions specifically aimed at Iran will continue until negotiations are finalised.

His remarks came shortly after Iran indicated that the strategic waterway was open to all vessels following a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. However, Trump maintained that the US would continue to enforce the blockade on Iranian activity, emphasising that it would only be lifted once a complete and signed deal is reached.
“The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete. This process should go very quickly in that most of the points are already negotiated. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he wrote.

While speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, the President described the reopening of the critical waterway as a significant development. Calling it “a great and brilliant day for the world”, he credited the outcome to US military pressure.

“We will remain in full force in effect as it pertains to Iran, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete and fully signed,” Trump was quoted as saying by Fox News. He stated that the United States “will get all nuclear dust,” which refers to highly enriched uranium.

“No money will exchange hands in any way, shape or form. You know how we’re going to get the dust, right? … We’re going to take it anyway,” he added.

At the same time, he also stated that Iran, with US support, “has removed or is removing all of the sea mines,” and that Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon.”

In another Truth Social post, he thanked Iran for opening the strait.

On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Strait of Hormuz has reopened to commercial vessels.

“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep of Iran,” he shared on X.

However, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, on Saturday, immediately disputed Trump’s claim that Tehran had cleared the strait for transit.

In a post on X, he wrote, “With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.”

The comments come amid heightened tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts, with Washington maintaining that discussions are ongoing while insisting on strict conditions for any agreement.
