The immediate past Commissioner for Works in Kogi State, Mohammed Yusuf, has declared his intention to contest the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
NOP NIGERIA reports that Yusuf made the declaration on Saturday during the formal unveiling of his ambition and manifesto at the LGEA Osisi Primary School Field in Kogi State.
Addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters at the event, Yusuf said his aspiration was driven by a desire to deliver effective representation and bring development closer to the people.
He noted that he would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to attract projects and improve the living conditions of constituents.
“I envision a constituency where the people have a stronger voice, where youths are empowered, women are supported and communities enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
Yusuf added that he would offer “not just promises but experience, commitment and a proven dedication to public service.”
The former commissioner said his ambition was also aimed at consolidating the development strides of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, particularly within the Adavi/Okehi federal constituency.
He stressed the need for continuity in governance and effective representation at the National Assembly.
Yusuf expressed confidence that his experience in public service had prepared him for the task ahead.
He previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Solid Minerals before his appointment as Commissioner for Works in the current administration.
He resigned from the cabinet in March to pursue his political ambition, in compliance with the electoral law, which mandates public officials seeking elective office to step down by March 31, 2026.
Following his resignation, he has been replaced by Ozigi Salami Deedat as Commissioner for Works in the state.
Stakeholders from the Adavi/Okehi federal constituency at the event endorsed Yusuf’s candidacy and pledged their support ahead of the 2027 elections.
