Yesterday, April 29th, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Bianca Chioma Ojukwu as the minister of Foreign Affairs.

Bianca Ojukwu (née Onoh) rose to prominence in 1988 after winning the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria title at the age of 20.

Her success in pageantry extended beyond Nigeria, as she went on to win Miss Africa in The Gambia and later clinched the Miss Intercontinental crown, becoming the first African to achieve the feat. However, she resigned her titles in 1989 following public controversy surrounding her relationship with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

She later married Ojukwu on November 12, 1994, in Abuja, and their union lasted 17 years until his death on November 26, 2011. The marriage, which drew significant public attention due to their over 30-year age gap, produced three children: Chineme, Afamefuna, and Nwachukwu.

Beyond pageantry, 57-year-old Bianca built a career in public service, serving as Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain and Ghana. In 2024, she was appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, further cementing her role in Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape.

After being appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Chioma Ojukwu took to her official Instagram page today, April 30th, 2026, to react.

Bianca Chioma Ojukwu stressed that she is honoured to be the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, by extension, extends her appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She added that she looks forward to contributing even more to the continued success of the 4D Foreign Policy Priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
