Professors from leading global institutions, including the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge, have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations.

In separate reactions, the academics described the appointment as well-deserved, citing Ibrahim’s academic excellence, global exposure, and leadership credentials.

Churchill College, where Ibrahim earned a doctorate in Business Management in 2023, noted that he completed the programme six months ahead of the approved duration.

Professor Christoph Loch praised the appointment as a great honour, describing it as a “thoughtful and strategic choice” by President Tinubu, and expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s capacity to navigate the complexities of the United Nations at a critical time.

At Cambridge Judge Business School, Professor Cole commended Ibrahim as a resilient African leader, while Professor Chapman of Saïd Business School described him as a “superstar.”

Professor Mathias also lauded the decision, calling it “the right peg in the right hole,” and expressed optimism about Ibrahim’s potential contributions to Nigeria and Africa.

At Harvard, Professor Ainsworth said Ibrahim would serve as a strong and influential voice at the United Nations, commending Tinubu for appointing “a brilliant man at the right time.”

The appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move, reflecting Ibrahim’s experience in global diplomacy and legislative engagement.

He has actively participated in international parliamentary diplomacy through the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, contributing to discussions on governance, peace, security, and sustainable development.

Observers say he is expected to leverage this experience to advance Nigeria’s interests in multilateral negotiations and strengthen the country’s diplomatic presence at the United Nations.
