He Betrayed Our Mandate – APGA Tells Senate To Declare Abaribe’s Seat Vacant

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has asked the Nigerian Senate to declare the seat of Enyinnaya Abaribe vacant following his defection to another political party.

NOP NIGERIA reports that this position was made known after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee held in Awka, Anambra State.

The outcome of the meeting was shared by the party’s spokesman, who released details of their decisions to journalists.

Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, was among a group of senators who recently left their parties and joined the African Democratic Congress.

Their defection was formally announced during a Senate session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Reacting to the development, APGA said the lawmaker’s action goes against the mandate given to him by voters under its platform.

The party maintained that the defection should not stand and called on the Senate leadership to apply the Constitution by declaring his seat empty.

At the same time, the party acknowledged the Senate leadership for its handling of the situation so far, stating that it supports actions that protect democratic order.

The committee also warned its members across all levels to maintain discipline, especially as preparations begin for the party’s 2026 primary elections.

It made it clear that any member who goes against party rules or behaves in a way that could affect internal processes would face sanctions.
