Offset Communications Advisory Ltd has instituted an action against Qore Technologies Ltd at the Federal High Court, Lagos, seeking ₦50 million in damages for alleged copyright infringement.

In Suit No. FHC/L/CS/1994/2025, Offset contends that Qore unlawfully appropriated and implemented content from a communications strategy proposal submitted in December 2022, without any formal engagement, attribution, or licensing arrangement. The plaintiff argues that such use amounts to infringement of its copyright.

The action, filed on 29 September 2025 by counsel Jimoh Bamigbola and Omobolaji Idris, names Qore as sole defendant. Offset, a Lagos‑based communications advisory firm, stated in its pleadings that it had previously undertaken Public Relations projects for Qore and was later requested to prepare a comprehensive communications strategy. The proposal, according to Offset, contained original ideas on employee engagement, branding, and stakeholder management.

Offset alleges that Qore subsequently adopted and integrated elements of the proposal—including internal communications initiatives and branding concepts—without payment or agreement. The plaintiff claims to have discovered the alleged infringement in April 2025 and, after failed attempts at resolution, approached the court.

Reliefs sought include:

– A declaration that Qore’s actions constitute copyright infringement.

– ₦50 million in general damages.

– ₦5 million as litigation costs.

– Post‑judgment interest at 29%.

– A perpetual injunction restraining further infringement.

Qore, in its defence, denies liability. It maintains that Offset was only engaged for limited PR support services on a project basis, for which it was duly remuner further argues that the ideas referenced are generic corporate communication practices not protected under Nigerian copyright law.

Qore also challenges the competence of the suit, asserting that the Statement of Claim discloses no reasonable cause of action and that the court lacks jurisdiction. In addition, the defendant has filed a counterclaim seeking ₦6.35 million as reimbursement for legal fees and ₦2 million in costs.

At the hearing on 23 March 2026, counsel for both parties adopted their processes, and the matter was adjourned to 22 June 2026 for further proceedings.

This case is poised to test the scope of copyright protection in Nigeria’s communications and PR industry, particularly regarding ownership of proposals and business ideas.
