A funny video of gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey’s father-in-law has sparked reactions online after he opened up about how the singer eventually won his daughter’s hand in marriage.

The music star recently celebrated his 13th wedding anniversary, and during the celebration, his father-in-law shared the story behind his decision to give out his daughter, Sarah, to him.

He explained that when Nathaniel Bassey first approached him, he was accompanied by a man named Kola, who introduced him as a trumpeter. The elderly man said his immediate reaction was disbelief, recalling that he responded, “Trumpet ke?”

According to him, he initially told the group that his daughter, who was then in 200 level at the university, would not be getting married until she completed her studies. He admitted that the statement was meant to discourage the singer, hoping he would back off.

However, after Sarah graduated, Nathaniel Bassey returned to see him again. This time, he reportedly promised to bring Pastor Ben, who was then the Commissioner for Economic Development in Lagos State.

Sarah’s father said he doubted the promise would be fulfilled and even expected it would give him a reason to reject the proposal. But to his surprise, Bassey later returned to Eket with Pastor Ben to formally ask for his daughter’s hand in marriage.

He further shared that over the years, he has witnessed God’s love in Nathaniel Bassey’s home, which is why he feels at peace staying with them. Despite having sons in Lagos and Canada, he revealed that he prefers living with his daughter’s family.

@ovilla10_28:”Whatever you do as a man please have an authority over you. Someone you submit to. Be accountable to someone. Listen to the part that wasn’t said. Imagine if Pst Nath didn’t have Pst Ben as a father or as an authority over him, this probably would not have happened.”

@ kuyet_kaykay:”Hearing this story from Pst Nath during HC is funny but hearing it directly from the father in law is even funnier.”
