Navy Secretary John Phelan was fired after months of simmering tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to the Wall Street Journal.
• Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Hung Cao, a Navy veteran and current undersecretary, will become acting Navy secretary.
• Phelan’s firing followed a rocky tenure that included tension over his close relationship with President Trump and his push for a modern battleship idea directly to Trump, bypassing Hegseth.
