The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a revision of the campaign timeline for the forthcoming Osun state governorship election.
The commission had moved the election from August 8 to August 15, 2026, after adjustments to its electoral timetable.
In line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, political campaigns are now expected to end 24 hours before the new election date.
With the updated schedule, INEC has fixed midnight of Thursday, August 13, 2026, as the deadline for all campaign activities in Osun State.
Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of its information and voter education committee who confirmed the adjustment in a statememt, urged political parties and stakeholders to comply strictly with the new timeline.
“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline,” he said.
He also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to credible elections, stating that INEC “remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.”
