The Labour party 2026 elective National Convention holding at International Conference Centre, Ogurube layout, Umuahia has ended with the election of Senator Nenadi Usman as the National Chairman of the party.
Senator Nenadi Usman was former Minister of State Finance and former Commissioner in Kaduna state
In the same vein, a former House of Representatives member, Hon Iheanacho Obioma was elected as the National Secretary of the party.
Hon Obioma represented Ikwuano Umuahia federal constituency from (1999-2003)
He was former Director General, Dr Alex Chioma Otti Campaign Organisation that was instrumental to emergence of Dr Alex Otti as governor of Abia state in 2023.
Speaking shortly after inauguration of the new exco, the National leader and the Governor of Abia state, Dr Alex Otti tasked the newly elected exco to strive to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party.
He also called on the new exco to go for the registration of new members adding that the portal was still open.
“Very soon, primaries will be conducted at all constituencies, ensure it is conducted without rancour across all contestable positions,” Otti advised.
He expressed optimism that the party elected a woman of substance who had held several positions in the past, noting as a former banker that she was very transparent having worked with her for the past two years.
Abia Governor thanked INEC, all Labour Party members for making the convention a success story.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman of the Labour party, Senator Nenadi Usman said on behalf of her team,they will not let the party down.
She called for support of the newly elected national executive, promising to carry everyone along in order to succeed.
Earlier, the Chairman National Congresses Committee, Hon Ginger Onwusibe, noted that the national elective convention marked a significant milestone in the annals of the party’s history in chatting the way forward.
He commended the efforts of Governor Otti in supporting the party during the tiring times leading to the party having it’s national elective convention.
