Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has criticised the recent protest led by former Senate President, David Mark, under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as insincere and driven by personal political interests.

Sani, in a reaction on Saturday, said those behind the protest lack the moral standing to present themselves as champions of the masses.

He noted that many of the figures now positioning themselves as opposition leaders had previously held positions of authority but failed to deliver meaningful change while in office.

“They have been in power and achieved little. They are now portraying themselves as agents of reform despite being part of the system they criticise,” he said.

The former lawmaker further described the group as lacking genuine commitment to national interest, insisting that their actions were not driven by concern for ordinary Nigerians.

“If they are truly agents of change, the country would not be in its current state. They are among those who built the system we now criticise,” he said.

Sani also accused the leaders involved of playing key roles in shaping what he termed a defective political structure.

He argued that some of the prominent figures within the ADC did not demonstrate strong democratic credentials while in office, raising doubts about their current posture.

Sani further advised that if the group desired a more stable political platform, they should have considered forming a new party rather than aligning under an existing structure.

The development comes amid growing political realignments and increased activities among opposition parties ahead of future elections, as analysts continue to monitor shifting alliances across the country.
