Veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu has advised Nigerians not to place all their political expectations on Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu made the statement while speaking on the growing political conversations surrounding the next presidential race and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria. According to him, while Peter Obi remains a strong political figure with a large support base, Nigerians should understand that national transformation cannot depend on one individual alone.

He explained that solving Nigeria’s problems would require collective efforts from citizens, political parties, institutions, and credible leaders across different sectors. Momodu noted that many Nigerians appear emotionally attached to Obi because of the hope he inspired during the 2023 presidential election, especially among young voters.

The media entrepreneur, however, warned against excessive dependence on a single politician, stressing that democracy works better when citizens focus on strong institutions and accountability rather than personality politics.

Momodu also encouraged Nigerians to remain politically active and continue demanding good governance from elected leaders regardless of party affiliation. He added that the opposition must work together strategically if it hopes to challenge the ruling party successfully in 2027.

Peter Obi, who contested under the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, continues to enjoy massive support from many Nigerians, particularly youths and urban voters. His supporters, popularly known as the “Obidients,” have remained vocal on social media and in national political discussions.

Political analysts believe discussions around the 2027 election will continue to intensify as major political actors begin consultations and alliance talks ahead of the next electoral cycle.
