The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has successfully cleared the traffic obstruction along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, restoring free vehicular movement at the Azara bridge, Jere axis as it intensifies Eid patrol operations.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri.
The spokesperson of the FRSC described the incident as a serious threat to mobility on one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors.
The emergency intervention, which was led by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammad, was done in collaboration with the FRSC Kaduna and FCT Sector Commands alongside the Nigerian Army and construction officials.
Ohaeri clarified that the gridlock, which stretched for several kilometres, was caused by ongoing road constructions compounded by the breakdown of an articulated vehicle conveying a crane at a narrow diversion point.
He said: “In a remarkable display of proactive leadership, operational expertise, and commitment to public safety, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed personally led the emergency intervention and avoided complete traffic paralysis.
“Determined to prevent further chaos and ensure the safety of road users, the Corps Marshal swiftly moved to the scene in person, taking direct charge of operations and coordinating a multi-agency emergency response.
“Under his leadership, FCT and Kaduna FRSC personnel worked in close synergy with the Nigerian Army and construction officials to execute a strategic evacuation of the obstructing vehicle and clear the corridor within record time.”
Ohaeri highlighted that the successful restoration of traffic flow once again highlights the Corps Marshal’s exceptional leadership style, hands-on operational approach, and relentless dedication to ensuring safer highways across the country.
He said the intervention not only eliminated the obstruction but also averted potential secondary crashes, security concerns, and economic losses associated with prolonged traffic congestion on the strategic expressway.
He noted that motorists and commuters who witnessed the operation commended the FRSC leadership for the rapid response.
