Actor ignites intense debate over approach to infidelity in marriage + Video

Nigerian actor and film director, Daniel Etim Effiong, has sparked intense social media debate after stating that a spouse’s first response to an unfaithful partner should be focused on helping them overcome their problem rather than acting out of self-interest.

The actor claimed dealing with infidelity in marriage should be approached with empathy and support rather than immediate condemnation.

He described cheating as a problem that requires help and healing.

Effiong made the remarks during a conversation on Diary of a Naija girl podcast where he spoke about how couples and society should handle marital issues and personal mistakes.

“I think the approach should be, if someone messes up in a marriage, it should first come from a place of, ‘How can I help you?’

According to him, the focus should be on helping the person address the underlying issue before discussions about healing can begin.

“No, this is a problem, how can I help you out of this problem? To deal with it, you have to come out of this problem. It’s a problem before we can start talking about healing”.

The actor further compared cheating to other forms of wrongdoing, noting that it should be viewed in the same light as behaviours such as lying and stealing.

“Cheating is like other things like lying and stealing.”

His statement quickly gained attention on social media, with many users debating issues of accountability, forgiveness, and emotional responsibility in relationships.
