A prominent Northern women’s socio-political organisation, Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, has called on the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to safeguard the senatorial mandate of Muheebah Dankaka for the Kwara South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was contained in a letter dated May 24, 2026, addressed to the APC National Chairman in Abuja.
In the letter signed by its National President, Hajiya Rabi Musa Saulawa, the organisation described Dankaka as the only female senatorial candidate from Northern Nigeria to emerge victorious during the APC primaries.
According to the group, only three women across the country secured senatorial tickets under the APC out of the 109 Senate seats nationwide, with Dankaka standing out as the sole female candidate from the North.
The organisation stated that Dankaka’s emergence represented not only the confidence reposed in her by the people of Kwara South but also a significant milestone for women’s political participation and inclusion in Northern Nigeria.

The group noted that her victory symbolised renewed hope for greater female representation in governance and national leadership.
Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa warned that any attempt to undermine, alter or substitute Dankaka’s candidacy could damage the relationship between Northern women and the ruling party.
“Any attempt to undermine or substitute her victory will be viewed by Northern women as a painful disregard for their loyalty, sacrifices, and contributions to the growth of the Party,” the letter stated.
The organisation also highlighted its role in the electoral successes of the APC in the 2015, 2019 and 2023 general elections through grassroots mobilisation, advocacy and voter education efforts across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the group, Northern women have consistently supported the APC and contributed significantly to strengthening the party’s political base across the region.
It further urged the APC leadership to implement deliberate policies aimed at encouraging more competent Northern women to occupy elective and appointive positions, particularly in the Senate and other strategic offices.
“We further urge the Party to adopt deliberate and sustained measures aimed at raising more competent Northern women for elective and appointive positions,” the group added.
The organisation expressed confidence in the leadership of the APC National Working Committee to protect what it described as the freely given mandate of Dr. Muheebah Dankaka by the people of Kwara South.
