Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in the Southwest, warning that Lagos State may also have been infiltrated by criminal groups. He made the remarks while reacting to the recent school abductions in Oyo State and the growing wave of attacks across parts of the region.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Adams said intelligence reports available to him suggest that criminal elements are spreading their operations across southwestern states. According to him, the activities of these groups go beyond isolated killings and are aimed at creating fear, instability and destruction.
“The information is that Lagos State too has been infiltrated. Their target is not to kill alone, it’s to cause destruction,” Adams stated during the interview.
The Yoruba leader explained that recent incidents in different states show a change in the pattern of insecurity in the Southwest. He warned that criminal groups appear to be adopting more coordinated tactics and expanding their reach into areas previously considered relatively safe.
Adams called for urgent collaboration among state governments, security agencies, traditional institutions and local vigilante groups to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
