Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer has officially extended his stay at the club, signing a one-year contract extension that will keep him in Munich until 2027.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper’s previous deal was set to expire this summer, but this new agreement ensures he will embark on a 16th season with the Bavarian giants. Neuer described the move as a “clear decision,” expressing confidence that the current squad remains capable of beating any opponent.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, Neuer has enjoyed a decorated career since joining Bayern from Schalke in 2011.
His trophy cabinet includes two Champions League titles and a record 13 Bundesliga trophies, a feat matched only by his teammate Thomas Müller.
A 2014 World Cup winner, Neuer also holds the distinction of being the most recent goalkeeper to finish in the top three of the Ballon d’Or voting, a milestone he achieved in 2014.
The upcoming 2026-27 season is expected to mark a period of transition for the club’s goalkeeping department.
Reports suggest that Neuer may play fewer matches to help facilitate the development of back-up keeper Jonas Urbig. In a related move to ensure stability within the squad, Bayern has also extended the contract of third-string goalkeeper Sven Ulreich for another year.
Neuer’s longevity and continued high level of play were most recently highlighted by his Man of the Match performance during Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final victory against Real Madrid.
Having retired from international football in 2024 with 124 caps for Germany, the veteran remains a cornerstone of the Bayern defense as they look toward another title-contending season.
