In a very sad and shocking incident, armed gunmen stormed schools in Ahoro-Esinele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Friday morning. The attackers invaded Community High School, LA Primary School, and nearby schools around 8am to 9am, shooting and killing one teacher while abducting the school principal and many students.…....
According to reports, the gunmen, who came on motorcycles, killed Assistant Headmaster Mr. Adesiyan and shot another teacher. They abducted the Vice Principal, Mrs. Alamu Folawe (also referred to as Principal Mrs. Rachael Alamu in some reports), along with an unspecified number of students and pupils. Some sources say two people died in total, including a commercial motorcyclist who tried to resist the attackers. The kidnappers also took the principal’s Toyota Corolla car and later burnt it.
The Oyo State government and the Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) have expressed deep sadness over the attack. The state has ordered the immediate closure of all public primary schools in the affected areas to prevent more attacks. Police have launched a massive manhunt with tactical teams to rescue the victims and arrest the gunmen.
This attack has caused serious panic among parents and residents in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities. Many are now afraid to send their children to school.
Social media has been flooded with reactions. One user wrote: “This is too much! Our children are no longer safe in school. Oyo State government, do something o!” Another commented: “Kidnapping principal and students in broad daylight? These bandits are getting too bold. God help us.” A parent added angrily: “We are tired of this. Every week na one attack or the other. When will this insecurity end in Nigeria?”
