According to a report by the Punch Newspaper on Saturday May 16th, 2026, the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has strongly criticized the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, over the sale of governorship nomination forms despite ongoing legal disputes surrounding the party’s leadership.…....
Otti accused Abure of disregarding court rulings and deepening the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party ahead of future elections.
The Abia governor expressed concern that the actions of the party leadership could damage the credibility and unity of the opposition party at a critical time.
The controversy followed reports that Labour Party governorship forms were being sold to aspirants in preparation for upcoming elections, even as disagreements over the authentic leadership of the party remain unresolved in court.
Speaking on the issue, Otti maintained that no individual should act above the law or ignore judicial pronouncements for personal or political interests.
He stressed that respect for the rule of law remains essential in preserving internal democracy within political parties.
The governor also warned that actions capable of creating confusion within the party could weaken the confidence of members and supporters across the country.
He insisted that the Labour Party must focus on rebuilding trust and strengthening its internal structure instead of fueling divisions.
The latest disagreement exposed the growing tension within the Labour Party, with supporters of different factions continuing to battle for control of the party’s leadership and political direction.
