5 Dead, 10 Injured as Building Collapses in Abuja

At least five people have been confirmed dead after a three-storey building under construction in Durumi 3, near Gudu market in Abuja, collapsed on Saturday morning. Ten others were injured, and one person was rescued alive after spending more than nine hours under the rubble.

The victims were construction workers on site. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has directed that all casualties receive free medical treatment. Rescue operations are still ongoing as emergency responders search for more trapped victims.

Key Points:

Poor enforcement of building safety standards continues to cost lives in the FCT.
One worker surviving nine hours under rubble shows gaps in timely rescue response.
A free medical treatment directive may reduce the financial burden on injured workers.
The collapse highlights risks faced by construction workers in unregulated sites.
Repeated building failures suggest systemic negligence by developers and regulators
