The historic town of Ijebu Ode in Ogun State is once again buzzing with excitement as the highly celebrated Ojude Oba Festival kicked off in spectacular fashion, attracting massive crowds from within Nigeria and abroad.
Recognised as one of the country’s most prominent cultural festivals, the event highlights the rich traditions, unity, and cultural identity of the Ijebu people.
Ojude Oba is famous for its vibrant atmosphere, featuring colourful traditional outfits, thrilling horse-riding displays, and beautifully coordinated family attire that transform the town into a lively cultural showcase.
Over the years, the festival, whose name translates to “The King’s Forecourt,” has evolved into a major tourist attraction, drawing top dignitaries, entertainers, entrepreneurs, and visitors from different parts of the world while generating huge conversations online.
This year’s celebration carries emotional significance as it marks the first edition without the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reportedly passed away in July last year after reigning for 65 years.
Like previous editions, various age-grade groups and cultural associations made grand appearances, proudly displaying their heritage through elegant fashion, dance performances, and impressive horseback parades.
The colourful scenes from the event have already taken over social media, with photos and videos capturing the beauty and energy of the festival.
Among the personalities that caught public attention was Mr Farooq Oreagba, widely nicknamed the “King of Steeze,” whose signature style once again became a major talking point online.
Another trending moment from the festival was the arrival of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose presence added to the excitement surrounding the event.
As activities continue, Ojude Oba once again reinforces its status as more than a cultural gathering. The festival remains a proud symbol of heritage, unity, and identity for the Ijebu people while maintaining its reputation as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events.
