Drake sparked concern among fans after referencing his father’s battle with cancer on a newly released song, but his dad has now clarified that he is no longer fighting the disease.
Dennis Graham spoke to photographers outside Bar Jubilee in West Hollywood after listeners reacted to lyrics from Drake’s new track Make Them Cry. On the song, featured on Drake’s newly released album Iceman, the rapper says: “My dad got cancer right now, we battlin’ stages / Trust me when I say there’s plenty things that I’d rather be facin’.” However, Dennis Graham explained that he battled lung cancer years ago and has since recovered.
According to him, doctors recently confirmed that the cancer had cleared up completely, which he described as a miracle. He also reassured fans that he is doing well and has significantly reduced his smoking habits.
Graham thanked supporters for their concern following the emotional lyrics on the album. Iceman was one of three projects Drake released on Friday, alongside Maid of Honour and Habibti. The releases mark Drake’s first studio albums since dropping For All the Dogs in 2023.
The rapper’s comments on the song initially led many fans to believe his father was currently undergoing treatment, though Graham’s remarks suggest the lyrics may have referenced an earlier period in his health battle rather than a present situation.
