Social media went into chaos after a false claim surfaced announcing the “death” of Nollywood legend Pete Edochie — but the man behind the shocking rumour has now come forward to confess.
The alarming story spread rapidly across X and Facebook, alleging that the iconic actor had been hospitalised and later passed away. Some posts even claimed a family confirmation, triggering panic among fans.
However, the individual responsible later admitted that the entire story was fabricated. In a public apology, he acknowledged deliberately creating the false narrative and misleading thousands of Nigerians.
He clarified that the veteran actor is alive and in good health, pleading for forgiveness from both the public and the Edochie family. He also urged people to disregard any circulating reports about the actor’s supposed passing.
The incident has once again raised concerns about how quickly misinformation can spiral online — and how damaging false celebrity death rumours can be.
