I have forgiven all political adversaries in Rivers – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has declared a sweeping political reconciliation in Rivers state, announcing that he has forgiven all his political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the Rainbow Coalition luncheon for 2027 election candidates held in Port Harcourt, Wike extended what he described as a total amnesty to his rivals, saying, “I have forgiven everybody.”

The former Rivers state governor said the move was aimed at reducing political tension and encouraging unity among stakeholders in the state, stressing that prolonged political conflict would no longer serve any constructive purpose.

“I use this opportunity today… I have forgiven everybody,” Wike said, urging his supporters and opponents to embrace peace and work together for the progress of Rivers State.

He also called on estranged political allies to return to the fold, adding: “I want you to come back home sincerely… We have played politics, we have abused ourselves, this is the right time for you to come back.”

Despite his reconciliatory tone, Wike used the occasion to highlight what he described as major achievements in the Federal Capital Territory, noting that his administration had embarked on an unprecedented 31-day marathon commissioning of projects across Abuja.

According to him, the large-scale commissioning exercise will include major road networks, public utilities, and urban renewal projects, which he said reflect purposeful leadership and strong presidential backing.

“This is the third year of Mr. President alone… we are taking 31 days for commissioning of projects in Abuja. I’m not talking about boreholes. I challenge anybody,” he stated.

Wike also warned against attempts to destabilize Rivers state, insisting that his political structure remained strong and firmly intact.

“Anybody from another state who is trying to destroy Rivers State, the person will have problems… You put your hand, you get fire,” he warned.

He further declared confidence in his political dominance in the state ahead of future elections, saying opposition efforts would not succeed.

“If you are talking about governorship election in this state, forget it, it’s gone… If you are thinking that any miracle will happen to overturn, to pull the rug off us, it’s a lie,” he said.

Wike, however, maintained that his coalition remained open to reconciliation, adding: “We are very over-alert anytime, any day. We’ll take you back, we’ll work with everybody. We are not selfish.”

He concluded that while political differences had defined past contests, the current moment required unity and strategic cooperation for the future of Rivers state and Nigeria at large.
