With 10,999,162 votes in the primaries, Tinubu was declared the party’s candidate.

He addressed the party faithful after announcing his triumph, during which he discussed national issues and the inner workings of the ruling party’s political process.

He went on to say that the government and the people are both feeling the pinch of the problems caused by the current fiscal and economic changes.

In his view, the last three years of reforms have been fraught with difficulty; he characterised it as a common national experience that has touched many parts of society.

After casting his ballot in Lagos on Saturday morning, Tinubu watched the results of the primary election unfold on television. He pondered on the process afterwards.

He found inspiration and encouragement in the activities taking on around the nation.

In addition, he expressed his happiness with watching the national political process, especially considering the peaceful environment that prevailed during the exercise.

During the primary election, he emphasised what he saw as the party’s unity and the supporters’ orderly participation.

“I was glued to the television after voting. I saw the mammoth crowd in Kano and Kaduna, the city boy walking the streets of Calabar.

“It was a good feeling to see that there was no bloodshed, no rancour. This is politics in earnest. This is where we want Nigeria, facing one focus,” he said.
