Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has triggered heated reactions online after sharing his opinion on how women should handle cheating in marriage.
Speaking during a recent discussion, the actor stated that when a husband cheats, a wife’s first reaction should not be self-centered anger, but rather an attempt to help him overcome the issue.
According to him:
“If your husband cheats, the first thing is to find how to help him come out of the problem. Don’t be self-seeking about it.”
His statement quickly went viral on social media, with many Nigerians sharply divided over his perspective on infidelity and marriage.
Reacting to the comment, X user @RealAbelabsn wrote:
“If your husband cheats as a woman don’t make the mistake to leaving the marriage or trying to do the same thing.”
However, others strongly disagreed with the actor’s stance.
“Make you cheat then I come dey reason how to help you out of it?” @OfficialJojo0 questioned.
Another user, @OnoyomDavid, described the actor as a “cheater sympathizer.”
“This one just set himself up for dragging. Cheater sympathizer 😒”
Some users also pointed out what they described as double standards between how cheating men and cheating women are treated in society.
“But when a woman cheats, she’d be humiliated and casted….okay na,” @briggsinph wrote.
Others argued that infidelity is a personal choice and not a “problem” a spouse should be expected to solve.
“It’s now that you want her to change a grown ass man? Better leave o,” @Kelvin_iconic commented.
Meanwhile, some social media users joked about the timing of the controversial statement, predicting intense online debates.
“Oh chim not again, 😩 we no go rest this week now, so many takes will start flying left and right 😭,” @MissGijae posted.
