Nollywood actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has publicly appealed to his political mentor, Femi Gbajabiamila, for forgiveness following tensions linked to the recent Lagos State House of Assembly crisis.
The Surulere lawmaker made the emotional appeal during a live appearance on TVC’s Your View on Friday, stating that he never intentionally disrespected Gbajabiamila despite controversies surrounding Lagos politics in recent months.
The apology comes after speculation of political divisions within Lagos political circles following the leadership dispute involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
During the political crisis, Gbajabiamila had earlier disclosed that reports linking Desmond Elliot to alleged moves against Obasa nearly caused him serious problems within the Presidency.
Although Elliot previously denied involvement in any plot against the Speaker, he admitted during the interview that political misunderstandings and emotions may have contributed to the fallout between him and his longtime political mentor.
According to him, his political journey was largely shaped under Gbajabiamila’s guidance, making it important for him to publicly seek reconciliation regardless of public criticism.
He said:
“I’m not saying, oh yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.”
The lawmaker added that mistakes are inevitable in political relationships and appealed sincerely for forgiveness.
“To err is human and to forgive is divine. If I have offended you in any way, I’m sincerely sorry.”
Desmond Elliot also extended the apology to a respected political figure he described as the “matriarch of Surulere,” asking for pardon over any disappointment caused during the political tension.
Despite the controversy, the actor maintained that his focus remains on strengthening his political party and continuing developmental projects within his constituency.
He also urged residents of Surulere to judge him based on his performance in office, insisting that his contributions to the constituency remain visible.
