Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Victor Umeh, has reiterated his belief that Peter Obi performed far better in the 2023 presidential election than the official figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicated.
Umeh made the assertion during an interview on SYMFONI TV while discussing Obi’s political strength and the outcome of the fiercely contested election. According to him, the former Labour Party candidate enjoyed massive support across the country, which he believes was not fully reflected in the final tally announced by electoral authorities.
The former senator argued that Obi’s popularity during the campaign and the level of public enthusiasm witnessed nationwide suggested that the Labour Party candidate secured significantly more votes than the officially declared result.
Expressing confidence in his position, Umeh said: “I’m sure he won the election. Obi’s votes if they were all recorded for him, I’m sure he got up to 10million votes. But it was downsided to 6.1million votes.”
He maintained that the official figure credited to Obi did not, in his opinion, accurately capture the true scale of support the former Anambra governor received during the election.
