Iran-US-Israel War Live Updates | US forces disabled two Iranian oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz after overnight exchanges of fire with Iranian forces, while the UAE reported fresh missile and drone attacks that injured three people. The latest escalation has raised concerns over the fragile ceasefire between Iran, the US and Israel, as global markets monitor disruptions to oil shipments and rising tensions in the strategic waterway.
The latest escalation has raised fresh concerns over the month-old ceasefire that Washington says remains in effect. The US is awaiting Iran’s response to a proposal aimed at ending the conflict, reopening the strait and curbing Tehran’s nuclear programme.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he hoped to receive “a serious offer” from Iran later on Friday.
The US military said the two tankers were attempting to breach an American blockade on Iranian ports. Earlier, it said Iranian attacks on three Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz were thwarted and Iranian military facilities were struck in response. No US ships were hit.
“They threaten Americans, they are going to be blown up,” Rubio told reporters.
Iran condemned the US action and accused Washington of violating the ceasefire. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on X, “Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the U.S. opts for a reckless military adventure.”
An overnight US strike killed at least one sailor and injured 10 others aboard a cargo vessel that caught fire, according to an Iranian judiciary-linked news agency.
Meanwhile, satellite images reviewed by the Associated Press showed an oil slick near Kharg Island, Iran’s main crude export terminal. Ami Daniel, CEO of Windward AI, estimated nearly 80,000 barrels of oil may have spilled since Tuesday.
“This is the risk of fighting in an oil-rich area,” Daniel said. Rubio also criticised Iran’s reported creation of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority to oversee ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
“Is the world going to accept that Iran now controls an international waterway?” Rubio said.
