Kwankwaso Is Trying To Bring Obi So That He Can Secure Support From Non-indigenes & Christian—Bature

Kano State politics has continued to witness intense political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, with fresh debates emerging over the reported alliance between former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.…....

Speaking during a television interview with Arise News, Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, claimed that Kwankwaso’s latest political moves were aimed at rebuilding lost support in Kano following recent defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.

According to Bature, several influential political figures in Kano had already aligned with the APC, leaving Kwankwaso politically isolated ahead of the next election cycle.

“Kwankwaso is now trying to bring Obi so that he can secure support from non-indigenes and Christian voters,” Bature said during the interview.

He argued that the proposed political partnership may not significantly change the electoral dynamics in Kano State, which he described as a conservative political environment.

Bature further alleged that Kwankwaso had previously criticised Obi and questioned the sincerity of the emerging alliance. He stated that the former Kano governor once dismissed Obi’s political relevance but was now seeking collaboration for strategic reasons ahead of 2027.

The governor’s spokesperson also maintained that the APC currently controls a stronger political structure in Kano, claiming that several major political blocs had united under the ruling party.

He added that Governor Yusuf’s administration has continued implementing projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure despite the ongoing political tensions in the state.
