Kwara State Government says it has trained over 2,500 youths in technology-related skills as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s position in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation, Mr. Kayode Ishola, disclosed this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Olabode Ahmed, at the Governor’s Office in Ilorin.

Ishola said the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is deliberately investing in digital innovation to make Kwara a major hub for technology talent and innovation in the country.

According to him, the state has taken part in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talents (3MTT) initiative, where thousands of young people received technology training, mentorship support, and access to laptops and funding opportunities.

He explained that the government is not only focused on training but also ensuring that beneficiaries can build careers and businesses from the opportunities created.

“The goal is to prepare young people in Kwara for global opportunities in technology and digital innovation,” Ishola said.

He added that the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme has also trained more than 5,600 public school students in digital skills.

The aide noted that some beneficiaries of the programmes have already secured internships, jobs, and launched startups, contributing to youth empowerment and entrepreneurship across the state.

Ishola also said the government is expanding internet access in rural communities through partnerships and improved digital infrastructure despite challenges such as manpower shortages, logistics, and unstable power supply.
